Observing with the LT

The NSO's Go Observing tool allows teachers and students to request and download images from the Liverpool Telescope. It has been designed to simplify the process of scheduling observations on a robotic telescope, so that users can request observations with just a few clicks of the mouse.

The observations on offer come from a target database of several hundred pre-selected objects, which were chosen to be interesting, suitably bright and to fit nicely into the field-of-view of the CCD detector. Using the Go Observing system means that users do not have to worry about the following technical issues:

• whether your chosen object is visible at that time of year or at what point during the night.
• where to point the telescope at the time selected for your observation.
• what filters to use, and how long to expose the camera for.
• whether the Moon will interfere with the observation.
