Work Experience Week 2019

Each year we welcome 15 students aged between 16 and 18 for a week long work experience program. The week consists of talks, workshops and an in-depth group research project supervised by professional astronomers here in the department. The week culminates in the students producing a report and presenting their findings to the rest of the group and invited staff from the ARI (Astrophysics Research Institute).

The next work experience week will take place between Monday 8th July and Friday 12th July 2019

Applications will open on Sunday 1st December 2018.

The closing date for applications will be Thursday 28th February 2019 - any applications received after this date will not be considered. We will let all applicants know whether they have been successful or not by the end of March.  The application will ask for your details and those of your school, but will also contain a question (answer: 250 words): 'Why do you want to attend this week?' - which will be the main basis for our decision on who to offer places to.

The work experience week will take place at the Astrophysics Research Institute, on Brownlow Hill in Liverpool, and students are asked to ensure they have their own accommodation, and can travel to and from the venue every day during the week.

There is no charge for this work experience week, and lunch will be provided on the first day. Unfortunately we are unable to provide or support any accommodation requirements, however, in exceptional circumstances we may be able to provide some financial support towards accommodation and travel expenses.
