Interview with a NASA Astronaut - Dr Piers Sellers
At the end of last year, we had the wonderful opportunity of interviewing a British born astronaut, Dr Piers Sellers. Together with students from the Bohunt School and Lawn Primary School, we headed down to the Royal Astronomical Society in London and spent a fun two hours asking Piers all sorts of interesting questions that had been submitted by students from NSO schools. Piers was born, raised and educated in the UK, but moved the the United States in 1982 and was selected as an astronaut in 1996. During his time with NASA he flew on three space shuttle missions and logged a total of 35 days in space, 41 hours of which were spent conducting space walks around the International Space Station.
It's clear from the time we spent with Piers that he is a kind, modest and entertaining man, who was very generous with his time and made us all feel comfortable. As we mentioned, before the interview we received hundreds of questions from school children across the country, and we were thankfully able to record answers to most of those, as you can discover for yourself in the following 25 minute video.
