NAM 2015: Teacher Training Day
The NSO, together with the Royal Astronomical Society, yesterday hosted a special educator training day entitled, “Bringing Space to the Classroom,” at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno. The session was aimed at bringing together all aspects of astronomy and space education, sharing best practice and enthusing teachers with a wide array of resources to take back to their respective schools and colleges.
The day proved a massive success with over 35 educators attending, covering all aspects of teaching from primary, through to 6th form. Resources were shared, experiences discussed and support networks formed, and there was even time for a few laughs along the way! During the day it was also agreed that a mailing list should be formed, enabling further discussion and collaboration. It is therefore hoped, that the day will provide a lasting legacy. If you’d like to join this mailing list please email email@example.com who will send you joining instructions.
The feedback received from those in attendance was so positive, that whilst the day represented a first for NAM, we now hope it will become a regular feature. Hilary Forbes, a teacher from Coleg Llandrillo, Abergol, commented, “Fantastic day, inspired by so many astronomy educators. I’m buzzing with ideas that I now need to go and think through to develop ways of making learning about astronomy more accessible to as many people of all ages as possible.”
