Early Life
Noelia González is from Uruguay. She studied communication and journalism at the University of Montevideo, the country's capital. While she was a student, she worked as a reporter for local news. Noelia later moved to the USA to study more. She earned a Master's degree in Journalism at the University of California, earning three scholarships for her work.
Career highlights
Noelia has done lots of work as a reporter. She spent 5 years at the company AJ+. There, she focused mainly on video reporting. She also worked as a presenter. She often worked on topics related to the lives of minority communities and on women's rights. She also travelled to other countries to make short films. Her videos are in Spanish, so that her work could connect with Latin American viewers.
In 2021, Noelia started working for NASA as a science writer and editor. She was hired to help explain NASA's science to Spanish-speaking audiences through NASA en español (NASA in Spanish). She also helps choose what NASA en español posts on social media. She writes for Ciencia, NASA's Spanish science website. It tells people about NASA's projects and space missions.
Noelia also hosts her own podcast called "Universo curioso de la NASA" ("NASA's Curious Universe"). It is NASA's only Spanish-language podcast, and it talks about NASA's missions. It started with the James Webb Space Telescope launch. Since then, it has talked about lots of other NASA missions. It also hosted talks with astronauts and specialists from around NASA.
Legacy
Noelia does very important work as a science communicator. She helps people learn about NASA's work. Because her work is in Spanish, it reaches people who might not have been aware of it otherwise. Her work makes space and science fun and easy to understand. She inspires others to learn more.
She has won many awards as part of teams that have brought NASA's work to new audiences. She has also won a NASA Writer of the Year award for her podcast episode on the search for life in space.
Other interests
Noelia has always loved to learn about space and the night sky. She has even written her own children's book! It encourages families to go outside and look up at all there is to see - even without expensive equipment.
